Baclofen, the active component of Bacifen, is a GABA-B receptor agonist that acts within the spinal cord to suppress both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes. This inhibition reduces the release of excitatory neurotransmitters like glutamate and aspartate, effectively diminishing muscle tone and spasticity.
Additionally, Baclofen exhibits CNS depressant and antinociceptive (pain-reducing) effects, contributing to overall muscle relaxation and relief from discomfort.

Bacifen is prescribed to alleviate spasticity resulting from various neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. It is particularly effective in:
Adults & Children (≥10 years):
Start with 5 mg three times daily, preferably with or after meals. The dose may be gradually increased according to response and tolerance, not exceeding 100 mg per day.
Children (<10 years):
Initial dose: 2.5 mg (2.5 ml) four times daily, with gradual increments as needed.
Maintenance dose by age:
1–2 years: 10–20 mg (10–20 ml) daily
2–6 years: 20–30 mg (20–30 ml) daily
6–10 years: 30–60 mg (30–60 ml) daily
Common: Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, muscle weakness.
Central Nervous System: Headache, insomnia, confusion, hallucinations, tremor, ataxia, blurred vision, or slurred speech.
Cardiovascular: Low blood pressure, occasional palpitations, or fainting.
Gastrointestinal: Nausea, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite.
Genitourinary: Urinary frequency or retention, impotence, or nocturia.
Other: Rash, itching, weight gain, excessive sweating, ankle swelling, nasal congestion, hepatic dysfunction, or increased spasticity in rare cases.
Muscle weakness significant enough to hinder movement may occur but typically resolves upon dose adjustment (reducing daytime and increasing nighttime doses).
Bacifen is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Baclofen or any component of the formulation.
Pregnancy Category B3: Safety during pregnancy has not been firmly established. Baclofen crosses the placenta; therefore, it should be used only if the expected benefits outweigh potential risks.
Lactation: Small amounts may pass into breast milk but are generally not harmful to infants. Nonetheless, medical advice is recommended before use.
Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
